The LSO’s Guest Conductor for the first half of the 2016-2017 season will be Todd Craven.
Todd is currently Principal Conductor of the New Score Chamber Orchestra in Orlando, Florida and former Music Director of the Michigan Pops Orchestra.
Todd began his professional career as Principal Trumpet of the Sarasota Orchestra and was a frequent guest artist at the Sarasota Music Festival. A prize-winner in the International Trumpet Guild and Ellsworth-Smith International Trumpet Solo Competitions, Todd has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra and at the Spoleto Festival and Tanglewood Music Center.
Todd made his conducting debut with members of the Sarasota Orchestra and chorus in Maurice Durufle’s Requiem in 2012, stepping in for the late chorus master Daniel Moe. He made his international conducting debut in St. Petersburg, Russia, conducting in a prize-winner’s concert with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. He has since conducted orchestras in Poland,
Russia, and the Ukraine in addition to his work with college, university and youth orchestras in the U.S.
Recently, Todd served as a cover conductor for the Detroit Symphony and was an assistant conductor and competition winner at the 2016 Miami Music Festival. As a result of his work in Miami, he conducted in a concert at the New World Center and was invited to be a conducting fellow and assistant conductor for the Miami Music Festival in 2017. Todd will also be a conducting fellow for the Allentown Symphony Orchestra (PA) in the 2016-17 season. He received a B.M from the University of Michigan, M.M. from Indiana University in trumpet performance, and M.M. in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan.
